A membership community of leading multinational companies

Data. Thought Leadership. Value Creation.

“The legal function can no longer be siloed. It must be a part of the enterprise digital journey whose mission is to elevate customer outcomes, value and experience.”

Mark A. Cohen
Executive Chairman, Digital Legal Exchange
(Forbes, 2021)

Aligning legal and business leadership

The Digital Legal Exchange is a global, non-profit, independent membership forum for general counsel and their business colleagues to exchange insights into accelerating the digital transformation of the legal function.

A Thriving Community

We are an interactive, collaborative global community of multinational companies that share common challenges, ideas, case studies, and best practices on digital transformation with fellow members.

Exclusive Access to Our Latest Thinking

Our events and our Faculty of global experts provide members with unique insights. Members benefit from curated research and scholarship and have access to independent benchmarking based on proprietary data surveys.

Transforming Legal From Cost-center to Value Creator

The foundation of the Exchange is honest and open discussion between legal and the business. Bringing the two together generates value not only for the legal function but also for the enterprise and its customers.

“Legal departments need to reframe themselves as a business…most legal departments don’t think of themselves that way. They think of themselves as a guardian, a police officer – or maybe, at best, as an enabler. But none of that captures the business component, which is critical to success.”

Exchange Salon Events for 2024

Our Exchange salon events are small, invitation-only events for senior legal leaders and their business colleagues. They are designed to be highly interactive, and to generate actionable content for all Exchange members. One of our salon events on making the business case for legal digital transformation was facilitated by Mark Smolik, GC of DHL Supply Chain Americas.

A Ground Breaking Whitepaper on Digital Transformation

Exchange Faculty Advisers Bjarne Tellmann and Michele DeStefano, together with Daniel Wu, recently published a groundbreaking whitepaper which explores the challenges and opportunities that digital transformation presents for legal functions.  The paper explores and critiques the typical legal department digital transformation trajectory and proposes a best practice 5-step approach for how GCs should approach digitisation.

Publication of the Digital Legal Exchange survey report ‘Benchmarking Digital Agility’

The Exchange, in collaboration with our strategic partner Major, Lindsey & Africa, recently released Benchmarking Digital Agility, our member survey report. The survey was designed to help our members benchmark their digital progress against their peers. The report shows that corporate legal teams are out of the starting blocks and ready to accelerate digital transformation in full alignment with the business. Digital Talent in the Asia Pacific Region

The Exchange has partnered with the Singapore Academy of Law on a number of events tailored to members and prospective members in the Asia-Pacific region. The first such event, which took place earlier this year, explored the issue of digital talent and was facilitated by Gladys Chun, GC of Lazada Group.  The group discussed how the search for talent has evolved in recent years in the APAC region and the skills that legal departments need now and in the future.
